Understanding Ontario New Land Transfer Tax
I can help you to understand Toronto's new Land Transfer Tax.
Who Pays:
This new tax is payable by the buyers of any residential property located in the City of Toronto. First time home buyers are exempted from paying this tax on the first $400,000 of a property purchase. It is a closing cost and needs to be paid through your lawyer.
When:
This tax applies to purchases signed after December 31, 2007 that have a closing date of Feb 1, 2008 and beyond.
Selling your home:
Take advantage of the rush to beat the tax. Now is a great time to sell your home. Buy another Toronto home before the end of the year, or escape the tax by moving to the 905-belt or beyond.
Buying a home:
Now is the time to buy, before this tax bite hits! Move-up buyers can save thousands selling.
